breed: Canaan Dog (probably mix). Canaans are pretty rare here in the US - even the first doctor he met at the vet had never seen one, though I did hear our our doctor at the practice explaining to him that they're the national dog of Israel.
adoption story: A woman who had helped me adopt some of my cats had posted Spencer's picture and information looking for a home for him. He was living in Jordan, and his owners thought it would be better for him to find a home in the US or Canada. I debated, but finally decided to adopt him. He was flown from Jordan to JFK airport in NYC, where a rescue group picked him up for me and met me in northern New Jersey in June 2018. I was expecting a smaller dog - I thought he was about 30 pounds, and it turns out he's more like 50 pounds, so it was a bit of a shock when we picked him up. We are still in touch with his original owners in Jordan, and hope that one day they will make it to the states and get to see their boy again.
name story: He came to me with the name Spencer, and since I love the name, I decided to keep it. Malone is after a cat that we ended up losing unexpectedly the day before we were scheduled to pick Spencer up (Andrew Malone).
fun facts: Spencer has been a handful, but he's a good boy most of the time. I feel safe with him in the house, because he would definitely hurt anyone trying to break in or hurt his mommy and daddy. In January 2021, he had to have a benign tumor removed from his back - hoping that was the only time he'll ever have to deal with something like that.
favorite things: being outside on his tie-out. Playing in the snow. Sharing lunch meat (especially salami) with daddy when daddy is making sandwiches.
dislikes: Pretty much every person that isn't part of his circle. When cars drive by the house.
